1962-67 NOVA AND CHEVY II
BOLT-IN STRAIGHT AXLE GASSER SUBFRAME

1962-67 Nova / Chevy II Straight Axle Gasser Subframe

Now you can raise the front of your Nova with our Straight Axle Gasser bolt-in subframe and look like you’re back in the Sixties ready to blaze off the line next to Stone, Woods and Cook! No cutting or grinding is necessary with our direct bolt-in subframe that uses all the same stock holes that held the original IFS (independent front suspension) subframe. Our beefy 2¼ X 3 box-tube jig-built subframe includes 1¾ X .120 inch wall upper firewall support tubes from the subframe rails. This adds a lot of strength to the subframe structure and supports the 8-bolts that hold the lower rails to the “chassis”. The firewall support tubes bolt directly to the firewall using existing factory holes.

The rear-steer leaf-spring suspension includes everything you'll need to install it into a stock Nova chassis in a weekend. The straight axle assembly is complete with tube axle (any width), leaf springs (rated at 2500 lbs. for the pair) with front shackles and rear frame brackets, shocks with frame mount brackets, new early Ford spindles with bolt-on Super Bell 2-inch dropped steering arms, new cross-steer Vega steering box with 2-inch dropped Pitman arm and cross-steer drag link and tie-rod. It features Wilwood 4-piston aluminum calipers with 10¾-inch rotors with a 5-on-4¾ or 5-on-4½ wheel bolt-pattern to fit inside nostalgic 15-inch wheels.

The Vega steering box has a splined input-shaft, just like rack-and-pinion steering, and will connect to the bottom of your existing steering column with the parts supplied in the kit. We are also dealers for ididit and Flaming River and have Nova columns if you would like to replace your old column with a new tilt model. We also have dual-chamber master cylinder brake kits with proportioning valves that plumb into your existing brake system.

This crossmember can be ordered with any engine mounts.  The cross-steer Vega steering box has a mounting plate welded to the inside of the chassis rails.

2, 3 & 4.) The 2¼ x 3 box tube jig-built bolt-in subframe rails feature the urethane-bushed front shackle brackets. Notice the tube-stub at the front of the rails; this is where the firewall support tubes connect to strengthen the lower “chassis” bolt-on connection.

5.) At the front of the subframe, you can see the two vertical plates that are for the core support (in their stock locations). The tube-stubs at the front of the rails for the firewall supports are bolted together. Holes are provided in the stubs and the firewall support tubes for the bolts provided in the kit. 6.) Both of our Nova subframes (IFS and Gasser) have the same firewall and lower “chassis” flanges. The lower connection uses the stock 4-bolt flange, while the upper firewall connection uses a 3-bolt mounting point to stock existing factory firewall holes. No drilling required.

7.) All of our Straight Axle Gasser subframes come standard with Wilwood 10¾-inch drilled and ball-milled rotors and 4-piston calipers. The hubs have either a 5-on-4 ¾ or 5-on 4 ½-inch wheel bolt pattern (Ford or Chevy). 8.) The straight axle is available in different widths. It features Ford king pins, spindles, Super Bell 2-inch dropped steering arms, while the right steering arm (shown) features two holes for the Vega cross steering. Notice we have added steering stops to the axle. The spindles come fully loaded with bearing packed in grease, rotors and hubs mounted with 4-piston calipers loaded with pads and safety wired. All you have to do is install the king pins through the spindles. Assembly will go real fast after the grafting is done.

9.) The basic cast iron Vega steering box comes with our standard subframe package; however we do have an optional chromed Vega box for more sparkle. The Vega box mounts to our frame bracket with three ½-inch thick spacer to clear the side of the casting. Notice we also provide a 2-inch dropped Pitman arm for the cross-steer drag link to the right spindle.

10.) The 2500 lb. rated springs seat on axle cradles and are sandwiched between the bottom U-bolt plate and the cradle. After the caster is set and all is adjusted, we recommend you (short) weld the cradle to the axle to eliminate rotation under the U-bolts. The springs can be mounted above the axle for a higher stance and a real Gasser look.

The axle is a available any width.
