1962-67 CHEVY II AND NOVA BOLT-IN IFS

Nova IFS

These two popular cars have some of GM’s most awkward subframe ideas! A bolt-in suspension kit has been created that will eliminate all the problems and put triangulated strength back in the front subframe by the addition of firewall support tubes, and give you the stance-and-suspension adjustability, 11-inch GM disc brakes, and rack-and-pinion steering, to make this driver a pleasure to own! There is no welding or drilling to install this subframe. It is a direct bolt-in. However, you will need to remove inner fender panels from the firewall.

1.) The original crossmember and suspension components unbolt just below the bottom of the firewall. This same factory 4-bolt flange on each side will be used to install the new Jim Meyer Nova IFS. To strengthen this weak lower 8-bolt connection, Jim Meyer has included 1 ¾-inch diameter subframe support tubes that form a triangle between the firewall and subframe. The new subframe features a box-tube crossmember (2 X 4 X .188-inch wall) that hold the D.O.M. (drawn over mandrel) tubular upper and lower A-arms (7/8-inch dia. X .156-inch wall upper-arms and 1-inch dia. X 156-inch wall lower-arms). A rear-sump oil pan is required with this kit.

2.) Stock, front-steer, GM '67-72 Chevelle spindles, balljoints, (11-inch dia.) rotors, and calipers give you parts availability everywhere in the USA! Plenty of suspension and stance adjustment is provided using aluminum, adjustable coilover-shocks (with powder-coated springs), since a three- position upper attachment point and a two position lower attachment point is provided! This means you’ll have about 4-inches of stance adjustability for the look you like best. Smooth steering is handled by a four-turn lock-to-lock Mustang manual-rack.

3.) Our new laser-cut distinctive stainless chassis tags will be on the front of the crossmember on all of our chassis and IFS. 4.) All of our Nova front subframes (IFS and Straight Axle Gasser) have these 1 ¾-inch diameter X .120-inch wall upper firewall support tubes for triangulated strength GM couldn’t give you in ’62-67. The new Jim Meyer direct replacement subframe bolts to the original lower 4-bolt flange so removing-and-replacing is relatively easy. The upper support tube 3-bolt flanges attach to the firewall using existing factory firewall holes. The upper A-arm tower will interfere with the lower end of the inner fender panels. Some trimming and fitting will be necessary to provide clearance.

5.) The vertical flange at the front corners of the subframe are for the core support. The tube stub welded to the frame directly behind the core support comes with a hole drilled for you to bolt the firewall support tubes to the subframe. 6.) For either BBC or SBC, the engine mounts are in their stock location which happens to be on the inside of the upper tower of the new subframe. Just about any engine mounts can be ordered with your new subframe.

7 & 8.) The brake package on our standard IFS subframe uses the ’67-72 Chevelle disc brake spindle that features 11-inch GM rotors, calipers, balljoints with stock caliper bracket and front-steer removable steering arms. Different wheel bolt patterns are available. The stock rotor features the GM pattern 5-on-4 ¾ bolt circle. Optional Wilwood drilled and ball milled rotors (with multi-piston calipers) are optionally available. Click here for our optional brake packages.

Nova IFS Upper Shock Mount 9, 10 & 11.) Camber and caster adjustments are made with the upper A-arm legs where they attach to the upper tower on the chassis. And, the upper attachment bracket for the aluminum coilover shock is also adjustable about 4-inches. No other manufacturer offers an adjustable stance IFS or chassis like this. With this IFS you can have the look you want… on the ground or near stock height. Notice the lower A-arm. The lower coilover dual mounting point features an inner hole and an outer hole (covered by the antisway bar tab above it). This outer hole can be used to lower the car even more, while the upper coilover (offset) bracket can also be flipped for more stance movement up-or-down. The lower balljoint comes pressed-in, while the upper bolts-in with 4-1/4X20 bolts shown. Nickel plated A-arms shown here are optional.
 
YOUR OPTIONS INCLUDE power rack, dropped spindles, 1-inch dia. antisway bar, hub bolt-pattern changes, adjustable coilover shocks, different coil-spring rates, high-performance Wilwood and brake kits and tilt-columns from ididit or Flaming River designed to fit you ride. All subframe kits parts are available separately.
 
 

OPTIONAL DISK BRAKES

The four optional Wilwood brake assemblies fit all our IFS, chassis or front subframes that would normally come with '67-72 Chevelle spindles and our 11-inch GM disc brakes. Only our 1955-57 Chevy bolt-in IFS kits, 1955-59 GM pickup weld-in IFS kits, and our 53-56 Ford pickup weld-in IFS for stock chassis come standard with our '70-81 Camaro 11-inch disc brake kits. For those two applications, we also offer the Wilwood Dynalite Big Brake Front Hub Kit using the 4-piston calipers with 12.19-inch diameter rotors. Either assembly comes with seals, dust covers, hats and hubs assembled with bearing packed and safety wired so all you have to do is install the spindle assembly between the GM balljoints.
