We offer steering linkage kits for all of our IFS kits and direct replacement chassis. Whether you go with a new column or modify the bottom of the old column, you’ll need a steering linkage kit to mate to the new rack-and-pinion steering on all of our IFS kits or chassis. Like the ‘vette linkage kit (shown), when three U-joints are used, a support bearing is necessary. This helps to route the new linkage past headers or stock exhaust.
We can also modify the bottom of your stock column to accept the linkage kit, if a new column is not in your budget! We’ll need to mill two flat sides on the bottom of your old steering shaft, add a shoulder bushing (to keep the shaft centered in the column), add a locking ring, and a double-D U-joint to connect to the new linkage kit! (ididit brushed aluminum column shown).
We have plain steel, chrome steel, brushed aluminum, polished aluminum, plain stainless, & polished stainless steel columns.

The support bearing bracket welds to the outside of the frame. Place the top of the support bearing mount toward center of car (goes over top of frame rail).

1953-62 CORVETTE STEERING COLUMN -- IDIDIT
As a dealer for ididit steering columns, we offer the '53-62 Corvette ididit replacement columns when we sell or install our IFS with rack-and-pinion steering. The columns are available in plain steel or chromed, brushed aluminum or polished aluminum. You will need our firewall column-mount kit and our steering linkage kit to connect to the new rack-and-pinion splined shaft. Our steering linkage kits and column-mount kits can be sold separately.
Steering linkage, modifying existing column or new column are optional.
This is how your new steering linkage hooks up to the bottom of your column. Either your old stock column modified, new ididit or Flaming River column will need a double "D" U-joint to mate with the standard linkage shown.

1953-62 CORVETTE STOCK COLUMN ADAPTER KIT
Converts the bottom of a stock column to rack-and-pinion steering and necessary for new ididit columns.
Our '53-62 Corvette bolt-in IFS kit with rack-and-pinion steering requires either a new ididit column or modifications to the bottom of a stock column. A new column or your old column will require the metal collar shown. The two-bolt metal ring attaches to the steering column and bolts to the firewall to hold it in position, since the original rag-joint that connected to the stock steering box will be eliminated. Modifications will need to be made to the bottom of a stock column to connect to the rack. All three pieces (shown) are necessary for this modification. The black urethane bushing insulates the stock column shaft inside the stock tube, while the small lock ring (shown) holds the tube and shaft together on the firewall.
STEERING LINKAGE SUPPORT BEARING…..How to use it
A support bearing is required when you can not use two steering U-joints to align the shaft between the bottom of the column and the rack-and-pinion steering unit. When a third U-joint is required to route the linkage around or through the headers, a support bearing must be used to hold the shaft as it makes the corrected angle. The support bearing simply supports the shaft holding the center U-joint.
A support bearing must be used with our ’53-62 Corvette bolt-in IFS. We offer an optional support bearing package (shown in the photo) that includes a support bearing, bracket and third U-joint that is needed with our ’53-62 bolt-in IFS. It bolts to the frame in the location of the old steering box. Our optional support bearing kit can be used with most aftermarket style headers in your’53-62 Corvette.
